The feel-good hit that doesn’t fade
Jul 15, 2025
Hey, there. AmyK here.
We live in a world that worships “this instant.”
Tap a screen, food appears. Click a button, packages arrive.
We’re wired for instant gratification, trained to expect results the moment we decide we want something.
And nowhere is this more evident than in the world of our personal growth.
Want to lose weight? We lace up our sneakers or slip on our sweatpants and somehow expect a pound—or three—to vanish by lunch.
Start learning yoga? We walk into our first class expecting to emerge an hour later as the next enlightened yogi. “Downward Dog? Child’s play.” (Until it’s not.)
Trying to meditate? We sit in silence for five minutes and get frustrated when we’re still thinking about dinner, emails, and that awkward thing we said in 2018.
Craving a more connected partnership? We plan one date night and expect instant intimacy—deep talks, zero tension, sparks flying like the honeymoon phase. But then the dishes pile up, the phone buzzes, someone’s in a mood, and suddenly it feels easier to scroll than to lean in.
Here’s the funny part: we want the end result this instant … but we resist the actual acts that create the result.
Most of us don’t want to go to the gym.
We don’t want to hit the mat.
We don’t want to do the heavy lifting.
We don’t want to show up for the every day moments that ultimately lead to mastery.
So, what if we flipped the script?
What if the real instant gratification isn’t the result—but the commitment?
What if the most rewarding “hit” you could give your brain is the moment you say:
Because that moment—right there—is powerful.
It’s present. And it’s proof.
Commitment is proof that your vision matters to you. It’s the spark of becoming. You don’t need to lose ten pounds or touch your toes behind your head to feel proud. You just need to show up—today. That’s a win.
Because commitment is a result.
It’s the moment you stop waiting for a better time, more motivation, or perfect conditions.
It’s the decision to align with the practice, not just the payoff.
The truth?
The journey may be long. Longer than you want. And transformations often take time.
But the feeling of progress—of identity shift—can start instantly. Not because anything changed on the outside. But because something just solidified on the inside.
So instead of craving instant results... what if you craved the feeling of showing up?
Of being someone who chooses again and again to care, to move, to grow, to invest?
That’s the best kind of gratification there is—the kind that compounds, builds self-trust, and shapes a life.
So put on the sweatpants. Hit the mat. Sit with the discomfort. Bite your tongue, or better yet, take a deep breath and choose to respond with love instead of snark.
Celebrate that you committed.
That you committed to something your heart desires.
Not tomorrow. Not when it gets easier.
Now.
Because when you choose commitment, you already are the result in motion.
Here’s to leading a committed week.
Hugs,
AmyK
